TUCKER, GA — April 22, 2025 — Clayton State University and the surrounding community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of David Magala, a standout goalkeeper for the university’s men’s soccer team, who tragically passed away in a car accident near his home in Tucker, Georgia. David’s death has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, teammates, friends, and the broader university community.
A native of Tucker, Georgia, David Magala was a dedicated student-athlete who made an indelible impact on and off the field during his three-year tenure with the Clayton State Lakers. As a goalkeeper, he appeared in 24 matches, recording 72 saves and five shutouts, helping the team to a commendable career record of 12-4-5. His goals-against average of just 1.3 per game underscored his consistency, athleticism, and excellent decision-making between the posts.
Beyond the stats, David was known for his calm demeanor, leadership, and the quiet confidence he exuded in high-pressure situations. His standout performances helped the Lakers earn back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances—an achievement the program hadn’t seen in two decades. David’s penalty saves in critical matches against Lenoir Rhyne in 2023 and Converse in 2024 remain etched in the memories of Clayton State fans, securing his status as one of the most influential players in program history.
David was more than just an athlete. He was a Criminal Justice major and a proud member of the Georgia Army National Guard, holding the rank of Sergeant. His academic achievements earned him recognition on the Peach Belt Conference Presidential Honor Roll, exemplifying his dedication to excellence in every area of his life. David’s character—marked by humility, integrity, and resilience—earned the respect and admiration of everyone who knew him.
Before joining Clayton State, David excelled at Tucker High School, where he was instrumental in leading his team to a 9-0-1 record during his senior year. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, he consistently showcased his talent and leadership, helping his team reach the state quarterfinals in both his sophomore and junior seasons.
David Magala’s passing is not only a profound loss to the Clayton State community but also to the world of collegiate soccer and the military service community. His legacy as a gifted athlete, dedicated student, and selfless leader will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
